Love Is a Battle

Julian and Clark

Clark and Julian, or Clian, is a romantic/friendship pairing between Clark O'Shannon and Julian in School of Rock.

Shown as the only real friend of Clark, it is hinted on several occasions that Julian may have a crush on Clark.

Moments[]

Clark 1

Blackmailing Freddy.

In Voices Carry, Julian is introduced as a member of the Acafellas and Clark’s right hand on stage and during his Hall monitor duties. He follows every order made by Clark without question in a pleased way. Even though the Acafellas have several members only Julian seems to be a friend of Clark.

True love

Spying.

In True Colors, Julian is now the Hall Monitor since Principal Mullins took the job off Clark. Is in this episode when is shown that Julian follows Clark not for his authority as a Hall monitor (since he is no longer Hall monitor) or leader of the Acafellas (since there are no other member hanging out with them). Even so, Julian helps him while Clark is spying on the kids of Mr. Finn’s class. Clark is sure that they are the members of School of Rock but Julian tries to warn him that this obsession of messing with Freddy, Tomika and the others is what go him problems with Mullins last year.

When Clark tries to prove the identity of School of Rock to Principal Mullins she reminds him that he used to cry for not having friends, something he no longer does since he met Julian.

Jingle Bell Rock

We wish you a Merry Christmas.

In Jingle Bell Rock, the Acafellas return to audition to get into the School’s holiday pageant. Clark assumes they deserve a free pass to be the finale since he acts as Principal Mullins assistant but when they are not listed on the show he begins a hissy fit, something Julian sees coming and declares in a joyful way proving that there’s nothing of Clark that he doesn’t like.

Clian

El Alamo.

In Love is a Battlefield, Julian was present when Freddy and Asher destroyed Clark’s replica of the Taj Mahal. Principal Mullins approved a new theatre project produced and directed by Tomika. Clark felt insulted when Tomika offered him the villain role of Antonio López de Santa Anna for the school’s play. When Julian tried to convince him of accepting the role he amazed Tomika with his hip hop skills giving Julian the role of Santa Anna and a supportive role to Clark. When Tomika deleted all of Clark’s dialogue he plotted to sabotage the play and Julian helped him because Clark was more important for him than starring on a main role in a Hamilton-like musical.

In I Love Rock and Roll: Part 1, Clark finally gets proof of School of Rock and blackmails Tomika to be his slave. This left Julian feeling left out when Clark demoted him from being Clark’s Helper Monkey to Assistant Monkey.

In I Love Rock and Roll: Part 2, Clark had enough fun with Tomika and when he is ready to turn her in he lost his phone with the evidence. He leaves the scene angry thinking somehow Tomika took the phone, but when he is no place to be seen Julian admits to Tomika that he is the one who took Clark’s phone since he is tired of all the attention Clark had been giving to her (and not to him) and that he was willing to give it to her if she promised to stay away from Clark no matter how pulled she is by Clark’s magnetism. This was showed that the only reason Julian could betray Clark is to keep him for himself.

21004

Love yourself.

• While Clark and Julian are original characters for the TV series with no movie version of them there has been some speculation that Clark may be an adaptation of Billy "Fancy Pants", the band stylist from Jack Black’s film.

• Ivan Mallon (Clark) and Augie Isaac (Julian) are Friends in real life and follow each other on Instagram.

• Ivan Mallon is a gay ally and attended CedarsPride in 2019.

• Their relationship in the third season is a mirror of Fremmer in the first season since Julian in the only one showing a direct attraction towards Clark while Clark is ignorant of that and doesn’t show any sign feeling the same. There was a chance that if the series had continued Clark had developed a crush on Julian as well and finally reveal their feelings for each other.

• Although Clark claimed he had a crush on Esmeralda in the first season, it was a lie he told only to get even with Lawrence for winning the role of president of the Spanish Club.

• If Clark and Julian had become an official couple before the show was cancelled they would had been the first male homosexual couple on a kids live action TV series and not Cyrus and TJ from Disney Cannel’s Andi Mack. The first female LGBT couple were Susan and Cheryl from Disney Channel’s Good Luck Charlie.
